# Billing and plans
> How Hive pricing works: per-seat plans with included AI credits, bring-your-own-key seats, Execution and Orchestration layers, volume discounts and Enterprise.
Hive is priced in two parts: **seats** for the people who use it, and optional **layers** for the automated work Hive runs on the business's behalf. Seats include AI credits, so most teams never think about model costs.
Prices below are in GBP, exclude VAT, and are list prices at the time of writing. The **Billing** page in your workspace (**Settings → Workspace → Billing**) always shows the prices and quote that apply to you, and prices may change.
## How prices are quoted
Every price has two forms:
* **Annual basis** — the monthly equivalent when you commit for a year. You are charged twelve times this amount for the year.
* **Monthly** — month-to-month, at 1.25× the annual-basis price.
## Seats
Each person who uses Hive needs a seat. Pick a seat tier per person — you can mix tiers in one workspace.

* **Minimum of 5 seats** per workspace.
* **Self-serve up to 1,000 seats.** Beyond that, see [Enterprise and rollups](#enterprise-and-rollups).
* **Credits pay for AI model use** — chat, agents and workflow steps. Each seat's credits refill every month.
### Bring your own key (BYOK)
If your organisation already pays an AI provider, you can fund seats with your own model key instead of Hive credits. A BYOK seat costs the seat price minus its included credits:

BYOK supports **OpenAI** and **Anthropic** keys. One organisation-wide key is used, shown in Billing as "key ending ····" and its last four characters. Model usage on a BYOK seat is billed by your provider under your agreement with them. See [AI and models](/security/ai-and-models).
### Volume discounts
One flat discount applies to every seat once the workspace reaches a volume bracket:

### Top-ups and member requests
When a seat's credits run low:
* **Top-ups** add £25 of credit at a time, at cost.
* **Admins decide whether members can top up themselves.** Members can also request a seat upgrade or more credit; admins approve these under **Pending member requests**.
* **Chat keeps working.** If a member's credits run out, a chat falls back to an included efficient model rather than failing.
In **Settings → Workspace → Usage and spend limits**, admins choose whether members can use **Allow usage requests** to ask for more, and set the default and maximum monthly spend limit for an individual workflow. The default is applied to new workflows, and a workflow saved above the maximum is brought back down to it. These limits are not enforced yet: a run is not stopped when a workflow reaches its limit.
## Layers for automated work
Seats cover people using Hive. **Layers** cover the work Hive does on its own — workflow runs, agent runs and multi-step processes. Layers never include AI credits; model use always draws on seat credits.
### Execution
Execution is measured in **runs per month** across the workspace.

Hive warns you from 75% of the allowance. When the allowance is used up, new agent and workflow runs pause until it resets; runs already in progress are not cancelled. The workflow builder's **Pulse** meter shows usage against your allowance.
### Orchestration
Orchestration is measured in **processes per month** and requires an Execution tier.

### Vertical Packs
A **Vertical Pack** is an expert pre-built agent library for a specific industry: £245 per pack per month on the annual basis. Packs include no credits of their own.
## Enterprise and rollups
Two options are sales-assisted rather than self-serve:
* **Rollups & PE** — for groups operating several entities, such as private-equity portfolios and accounting-firm rollups. From £3,950 per group per month on the annual basis, with entity discounts of 10% for 7–15 entities and 15% for 16 or more.
* **Enterprise** — for 1,000 seats or more, or when you need contract terms. Enterprise contracts run on an annual term, billed monthly on Net-30 invoices, with pricing agreed with Hive.

## Changing your plan
Owners and Admins configure seats and layers on the Billing page. Hive prices the configuration first, shows you the quote, and only then applies it.
* **Upgrades take effect immediately** and are prorated.
* **Downgrades are applied through the billing cycle** rather than immediately; the quote shows when a change takes effect.
* **Removing a member** releases their seat at the next monthly reset; nothing is refunded part-way through a cycle.

Only Owners and Admins can see commercial and payment details. Other members see "Commercial and payment data is restricted to workspace owners and admins."
## Frequently asked
Production runs of workflows and agents — started by a schedule, a form, a person or another agent — count against your Execution allowance. The **Pulse** meter in Workflows and the Billing page show your current usage.
